Counseling Intern
Hello! I’m Maria, a counseling intern working towards a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University Chicago. I walk alongside children, adolescents and parents as they seek health and wellness by establishing an atmosphere of safety, respect, and trust.
In therapy, I aim to help each individual work towards holistic wellness. I use evidence-based practices such as ACT (rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Person-Centered therapy, and. creative techniques including play and art to tailor sessions to each unique client. With these approaches, I work alongside clients experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mood related disorders. I also focus on topics like stress management, self-esteem, grief, and boundaries. My approach is trauma-informed, acknowledging that each individuals’ experience in life is different.
“The great illusion of leadership is to think that man can be led out of the desert by someone who has never been there.”
― Henri J.M. Nouwen, The Wounded Healer
Prior to Marvelous Minds, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University. I am in the final year of my Master’s program; excited for the opportunity to work in an outpatient setting! As a Colorado native, I love all things outdoors! My current favorites are snowboarding, running, and camping. I’m obsessed with reading and am currently working my way through the Harry Potter series (but don’t tell me how it ends!).
I look forward to helping you and your family take steps towards health and wholeness.
